Pakistani diplomats will arrive in Kabul on December 22 for the country's embassy in Afghanistan to resume its work, secretary of the Pakistan information ministry Anwar Mahmoud told journalists, adding that on the same day members of the Afghan interim administration will get down to work. As to the format of the Afghan government elected in Bonn, Mahmoud pointed out that head of the administration Hamid Karzai is being supported by all Pashtun tribes, that is the majority of the population. According to him, Pakistan "maintains good contacts with all Afghan groups and factions." Mahmoud expressed the hope that a lasting peace would soon be established in the neighbouring state destroyed by many years of civil war. The high-ranking representative of the government also reported that a team of the state TV of Pakistan would be sent to Kabul soon to cover the events taking place there.
