In the context of the dialogue with the Palestinian leadership, Secretary of the PLO Executive Committee Mahmud Abbas, who arrived in Moscow the day before, will conduct consultations on the Middle East settlement in the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday, February 21. As the Ministry's information and press department reported, within the framework of these consultations it is planned that the Secretary of the PLO Executive Committee will meet with Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Igor Ivanov and that the session will take place of the Russian-Palestinian working committee for the Middle East whose co-chairmen are Mahmud Abbas and Russian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alexander Saltanov.
As the RIA Novosti correspondent was told in the Embassy of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) in Moscow, the main attention at these consultations will be paid to the Middle East settlement, including in the first place the so-called Road Map.
Mahmud Abbas is an official representative of the PNA at the negotiations with Israel and one of the oldest Palestinian politicians. He repeatedly came out against the policy of terrorist acts in the territory of Israel.
As official Palestinian sources stated last Tuesday, Mahmud Abbas (known in Palestine as Abu Mazen), Figure No. 1 in the Palestinian administration, will be appointed Prime Minister of the Palestinian National Authority. Representatives of the Palestinian administration point out that the decision on his appointment was taken by Yasser Arafat and the Central Committee of the FATH Party.
