As of today, the Russian foreign ministry has not been notified by the Cypriot side that it wants to back out of the agreement on visa-free travel between the two countries, the Information and Press Department of the Russian foreign ministry reported on Monday.
Asked to comment on the possibility of Cyprus's introduction of a visa regime for Russian citizens, a source in the department said the agreement on visa-free travel Russia and Cyprus had reached in 1995 was still in force.
"It is generally accepted throughout the world that the initiator of a visa-free regime must notify the other side about its intention to denounce a visa-free agreement three months in advance," the source explained. So far, the foreign ministry has not received any such notifications from Cyprus.
