President Askar Akayev of Kirghizia points out the need to reform the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
"The present-day reality dictates the need to work out and put into practice new conceptual approaches to reforming the Commonwealth, which was confirmed by the latest CIS summit in Chisinau," said Askar Akayev at the Astana summit of the Central Asian Cooperation Organisation member countries on December 27th.
The Kirghiz presidential press service reports that Askar Akayev also expressed interest in the further development and deepening of mutually advantageous cooperation within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.
Speaking about cooperation within the framework of the Central Asian Cooperation Organisation, the Kirghiz President expressed the opinion that a deep integration of the Organisation's member countries was possible on the basis of the real functioning of the free trade zone and the creation of transnational companies and financial-industrial groups.
