Supreme Court of Georgia is considering the law suit by Chechens who have lodged a protest against the decision to extradite them to Russia

The Supreme Court of Georgia on Wednesday started hearings of the law suit of the three Chechens who had lodged a protest against the decision of the Georgian Prosecutor's Office to extradite them to Russia. They were detained in August, this year, by Georgian frontier guards when after an armed raid to Chechnya they were returning to the neighboring Pankisi Gorge in the territory of Georgia. The Russian side demanded their extradition, because they are accused of committing grave crimes in the territory of Russia.

Ruslan Gelogayev, Husein Alkhanov and Rustam Elkhadzhiyev had lodged a protest against their extradition in the district court of Tbilisi but their law suit was not satisfied.

This August, the Georgian side detained altogether thirteen Chechens, and already extradited to Russia five of them. Two of them have proved to be citizens of Georgia and will go on trial by the Georgian court. Another three out of the thirteen detained have not yet been identified.
