Eduard Shevardnadze satisfied with Russian-Georgian law-enforcement cooperation

Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze has expressed his satisfaction with the fact that two Georgian citizens, wanted for organizing and carrying out a terrorist attack against the president in February 1998, were detained in Chechnya. In 1998 the terrorists fired at Shevardnadze's escort on the highway leading to the government residence, killing two presidential guards.

Shevardnadze welcomes "the level of cooperation Russian and Georgian law-enforcement bodies have achieved," he said in an interview with the Georgian National radio on Monday.

The offenders, 45-year-old Soso Toriya and 38-year-old Vepkhiya Durglishvili, were detained by Russian policemen in the Gudermes region of Chechnya. At present documents for their extradition to Georgia are being prepared.
