President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has submitted to the Verkhovna Rada a bill on granting Polish citizens a special status on the territory of the republic. This was stated by the President of Poland Andrzej Duda.
Zelensky's intention regarding the status of Polish citizens in Ukraine became known on May 22. The representative of the Verkhovna Rada in the Ukrainian Constitutional Court, Olga Sovgirya, said that this mechanism, in particular, will facilitate the procedure for crossing the border.
“Today, Ukraine is giving a symbolic invitation with this step, the gesture of the President. (...) Let this be a sign for us in cases that are difficult to talk about,” Duda said.
He added that he sees in this situation the exact opposite of the events of the Second World War, when the Ukrainians tried to "get rid of the Poles at any cost."
