Where should lovers date? Cafes and cinemas seem to be too trivial nowadays. Newly elected government of Singapore, that seems to be extremely concerned about demography problems, issued a handbook “How and where to date”. The book instructs young people as for planning and organization of dates to make them really unforgettable.
An eight page instruction suggests, invitation of your sweetheart to a beach is very romantic, or it offers to take a dog for a walk in the Singapore botanical gardens (certainly, if your girl is not afraid of “man’s best friends”). Museums and bookshops are said to be first-grade dating places.
The dating handbook is developed by the Social development department, a governmental institution that is acting as a kind of a matchmaker for educated young people. As it became evident, uneducated people do not have problems with the choice of time and place for dates. Local newspaper Sunday Times also publishes opinions of different experts as concerning love and marriage.
The Singapore government is seriously concerned about low birth rate. To remind women of their natural destination and make marriage more attractive for them, the government provides for tax reduction for women who marry and have children. An official dating agency regularly organizes activities for single people to help them find couples.
Critics, in their turn, censure the governmental experiments in the social sphere. Another projects that cause much criticism of the government are the campaigns under the slogans “Speak good English” and “Clean toilet”.
