Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov has said that he morally supports journalists from the TV6 channel. Speaking at a briefing in the Government building on Wednesday, the head of the Cabinet of Ministers said that he backs the recent decision by the staff of the TV6 channel to terminate the channel's broadcasting license ahead of time and form a legal entity. This would allow the leading TV6 journalists to take control over the channel. According to the prime minister, he also supports Press Minister Mikhail Lesin's opinion that both TV6 viewers and journalists need to retain "commitment to each other." In Mr. Kasyanov's view, the TV6 staff has to participate in the competition for the right to broadcast on this channel. The prime minister also said that he hoped that the TV6 journalists would win this competition.
