On 26 December a sculptural composition "Sholom-Aleikhem and his characters" will be unveiled in one of the central streets of Moscow, Malaya Bronnaya. Authors of the composition are sculptor Yuri Chernov, a people's artist of Russia and a full member of the Russian Academy of Arts and architect Garry Kopans. According to Lyudmila Shvetsova, first deputy of the mayor, "wise internationalism of Sholom-Aleikhem who in his creative work expressed the spirit and aspirations of the Jewish people is dear to representatives of other nationalities. In Shvetsova's opinion, Sholom-Aleikhem's books are inspired with love to an ordinary person, which makes his creative work similar to great Russian literature of Pushkin, Gogol, Dostoyevsky, Tolstoi, its democratic and enlightenment traditions. She added that the monument was a gift from the "Russian Gold" group of companies to Moscow.
