Two suspected criminals were killed in a clash with police in Russia's restive southern province of Dagestan.
The two men were riding in a car that was allegedly involved in a drive-by shooting attack against a police checkpoint Sunday night in the Karabudakhkent district south of the capital, Makhachkala.
Pursuing police opened fire at the car, which then ran into a ditch, killing one of the suspects. The second blew himself up with a grenade.
Another police post, in the city of Buinaksk, was targeted in a bomb attack early Monday that damaged several cars but did not injure anyone, the regional Interior Ministry told.
They were the latest in a string of attacks on police and government officials in the Caspian Sea province, the AP reports.
