The Russian Foreign Ministry has released a statement on Russian demonstrations in Latvia. Russians held these demonstrations irregardless of Latvian pressures, the ministry said. It mentioned the deportation of the head of the Headquarters for protecting Russian schools, Alexander Kazakov, from Latvia as an example of such pressures. The disinterest of the Latvian government to hold negotiations with Russian nationals living in the country raises the antipathy of Russians, the ministry said. Russia and Russian nationals in Latvia see no improvements of the existing problems after Latvia's joining the European Union. The Latvian government shows that it is not going to follow the corresponding recommendations made by the UN, the OSCE and the European Council.
