Quality-Control leader says people, better conditions are job №1

Quality control systems are in place at 1,810 Russian enterprises. However, most of them don't work. That was the message put forward Wednesday by Gennady Voronin, president of the All-Russian Quality Organization, at an international research conference, 'Modern Methods of Controlling Quality in Business,' Rosbalt reported. 'Many heads of Russian companies are delighted that their firms are competitive in the domestic market. But tomorrow, when the country enters the World Trade Organization and better-quality foreign goods come on the market, it will be too late for Russian manufacturers to introduce quality control systems,' Voronin warned.

In the opinion of the president of the All-Russian Quality Organization, to improve the quality of its products and services Russia must draw on the experience of the world and invest not just in systems of quality control but in people, in the social sphere, in labor conditions. 'When you go into a plant and find the shop cold, the machinery dirty, the documentation torn-how can you even talk about quality?' Voronin said. 'Money has to be invested in people as a stimulus to turning out good products. Mere introduction of quality systems-that is a stage long since passed throughout Europe.'
