FSB Director Nikolai Patrushev sees the extradition issue as an important part in the joint international fight against terrorism. The FSB director said this Friday at the international conference on CIS Cooperation in the Fight against International Terrorism and its Financial Sources.
Some people in Russia suspected of involvement in terrorist activities are legally living in other countries and having the opportunity of further raising money for militants' activities, Patrushev said.
The FSB director has suggested that foreign partners pay particular attention to issues directly dealing with legal assistance, without violating their national legislation. This above all refers to the extradition of persons suspected of terrorist involvement. To this end, he deems it necessary to set up expert groups to work out relevant proposals for updating the legislation.
Rights and freedoms should be preserved and developed, and competent bodies should be entitled to protect them from the terrorist threat, stressed the FSB director.
Nikolai Patrushev is chairing the council of directors of security bodies and special CIS services.
