Yuri Rybakov: Objective judicial process preserved in England

'I am convinced that at least in England an objective judicial process has been preserved,' said State Duma Deputy Yuri Rybakov, while commenting on yesterday's refusal of the London Court to extradite Chechen rebel envoy Akhmed Zakaev to Russia. Rybakov said that no political orders or political pressure influenced the decision of the English court.

Rybakov spoke as an expert in the process. He is the chairman of the human rights subcommittee. He emphasized that the English court asked him as an expert whether or not they could count on an objective judicial process in Russia considering Zakaev's circumstances. Rybakov is confident that 'today in Russia it is impossible to count on an impartial court in relationship to a person, who has become a target of the secret services in conditions of harsh political intrigue.' Moreover, Rybakov said that he can not vouch for the security of Zakaev during such a process.

Presiding at the sessions, Rybakov came to the conclusion that the charges against Zakaev were fabricated. He said that the Prosecutor General's case is not convincing. Rybakov does not exclude the possibility that if the charges were validated, then England would have extradited Rybakov.
