ROMIR posts results of opinion poll on jailed YUKOS former head

Thirty-eight percent of Russians believe Mikhail Khodorkovsky's resignation from the Russian oil giant YUKOS will not shelter him from prosecution, according to a public opinion poll conducted by ROMIR. Thirty-four percent of the respondents said given such heavy charges Khodorkovsky was not in a position to run the business, and eighteen percent of the pollees argued that the charges were true. Ten percent of the respondents remained undecided.

For the question "If Khodorkovsky voluntarily decides to pay all taxes he is accused of evading, should he be discharged for tax evasion or not?" sixty-eight percent of the respondents answered that if the court decided Khodorkovsky was guilty he should be punished; twenty-four percent of the respondents believe his case should be dismissed, and 8 percent of the pollees remained undecided.
