The ambassador of Cuba to the Russian Federation, Jorge Martinez, thanked Russia for its support of the resolution of the UN General Assembly calling for annulling the trade and economic sanctions against Cuba imposed by the United States.
"This is a very important decision of the international community in support of Cuba, its revolution and its further development," said the ambassador at the news conference in Moscow, having reminded the audience that the day before 179 countries voted for this resolution.
The ambassador said that "mutual understanding and cooperation have always existed" between Cuba and Russia. The positions of the two countries "on different issues often coincide." Jorge Martinez reminded the audience that Cuba annually sells to Russia about one million tons of sugar. The ambassador underscored that apart from that Havana and Moscow plan to cooperate also in other spheres, such as technologies and gene engineering; there are also joint projects in the sphere of the power industry.
Jorge Martinez also said that the number of Russian tourists visiting Cuba is increasing every year.
