The Russian Foreign Ministry has responded sharply to the chapter dealing with Russia in the U.S. State Department's report on the observance of human rights in the world. Moscow "will not tolerate the didactic tone and unfounded accusations coming from a state where instances of police violence, anti-Semitism and racism, 'contract' journalism and neglect for the main constitutional rights and liberties are not infrequent," says a Russian Foreign Ministry communique circulated on Thursday in response to the annual report on the observance of human rights in the world presented to U.S. Congress by the State Department, Interfax reports. "But then, the United States' own commentaries on the recent presidential elections suggest that, despite 200 years of experience, the practice of ensuring democratic elections in the United States remains quite imperfect," the Foreign Ministry said.
