Former USSR President and current leader of Russian United Social-Democratic Party Mikhail Gorbachev was invited to be a candidate for the post of the President of the republic of Tatarstan from the Social-Democratic party today. However the press-service of the party reported that Gorbachev would scarcely agree to run for this post. The press-service noted that the decision of Tatar social democrats is an “initiative, accepted under the conditions of lack of real alternative to the current President of the republic Mintimer Shaimiyev”. A spokesman for Gorbachev Fund said that “the proposal is at Gorbachev’s table now, he has not made any decision yet”, RIA Novosti reports. The USSR ex-president will probably give his answer on Saturday, during the conference of the Social-Democratic Party, said the spokesman.
