A gunman walked into a chicken processing plant Monday and shot a company official to death during a meeting, then killed himself, police said. Lt. Chris Farris said gunfire broke out as the suspect met with a division manager and hatchery manager for Sanderson Farms Inc. The division manager was slain, and the hatcher manager was wounded, Farris said. The wounded man crawled from the office and alerted other employees to call police, Farris said. He was in stable condition at a hospital. The motive was not immediately known, but Farris said that the suspect, whose name was not released, was a chicken breeder and that there was speculation about a financial problem. Sanderson Farms, based in Laurel, Miss., produces and distributes fresh and frozen chicken. Bryan is 85 miles northwest of Houston, AP reports.
