Over 1,000 families have been without heating in Karelia for the past month and a half. According to the regional energy commission's press office, 39 apartment blocks have still not had repairs carried out to their heating systems after the extremely hard frosts at the beginning of January caused systems to break down.
The situation is particularly difficult in Medvezhegorsk, where, despite the end of the state of emergency, 30 apartment blocks remain without heating. The energy commission explains the delays to repair work by the fact that most of these blocks have many individual flats, and repairing internal systems requires a large amount of money and effort. 'Repair work is going according to schedule, and the commission's management is looking for ways to optimise it,' said the commission's press office.
