Norway Wants Quick Agreement on Border for Russia's Continental Shelf

Norway would like to speed up the process of negotiations to establish a border for Russia's continental shelf. According to the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources, this was announced during a meeting between Russian Natural Resources Minister Vitaly Artyukhov and Norwegian Oil and Energy Minister Einar Steensnaes.

The ministers said that the two sides are currently close to reaching agreement in principle on delimiting waters in the Barents Sea. Russia has proposed confirming the agreement according to official protocol by presenting it to the UN's committee on international borders on the continental shelf.
