The Presidents of Russia and Pakistan Will Discuss Bilateral Relations and International Problems

During the official visit to Russia by the President of Pakistan, which will start on Tuesday, it is envisaged to continue "the dialogue on a broad range of bilateral, regional and international problems." Official spokesman for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Alexander Yakovenko spoke about it on Monday in an interview with RIA Novosti.

According to him, "the Russian side points out with satisfaction the activation of Russian-Pakistani contacts of late, including contacts at the highest level." The diplomat said that "a principled and constrictive tone was attached to the Russian-Pakistani political dialogue at the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and President of Pakistan Pervez Musharraf in the context of the Conference on Cooperation and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia that took place at the highest level in Alma Ata in June 2002.

The official spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry pointed out that "Pakistan occupies an important place in the world and plays an independent role in Russia's priorities in foreign policy which are determined by the role of that country both in the region, which borders on the southern frontiers of the CIS, and in the Islamic world as a whole."
