Russian members of parliament made an address to US congressmen yesterday to increase Russian-US cooperation in the area of chemical disarmament. As a Rosbalt correspondent reports, 311 members of parliament voted in favour of this address, which was prepared by Duma committees on defense and international affairs.
The document confirms Russia's adherence to obligations laid down in the chemical weapons convention prohibiting all development, production, stockpiling and use of chemical weapons. 'It is essential for the interests of all humanity to ensure that weapons of mass destruction are never used and to prevent terrorists getting access to chemical weapons,' the document runs. Russian members of parliament believe that restarting construction of units for the liquidation of chemical weapons is in the security interests of both Russia and the USA.
