All power structures of Russia's Far East will participate in large-scale military exercises in August 2003.
The Russian President's Plenipotentiary Representative in the Far Eastern Federal District Konstantin Pulikovsky was instructed to co-ordinate the exercises and the preparations for them. This was disclosed to a RIA Novosti correspondent on Monday by the Plenipotentiary Representative's spokesman Yevgeny Anoshin.
Approximately 30 situations at sea and on land are to be worked out during the exercises. The exercises are aimed at combating poachers, biological terrorism, drug trafficking, illegal migration, and at the protection of oil and gas deposits.
At the present time, there is no proper interaction between the federal and regional authorities, and between the power and law-enforcement structures in emergency situations. Therefore, the prime task of the exercises is the organisation of control between different structures in critical situations, Konstantin Pulikovsky said.
