The Russian delegation to the UN denied reports about Russian nuclear forces on high alert.
Andrei Belousov, deputy head of the Russian delegation to the UN, stated that such statements were not true.
"We have already pointed out the groundlessness of allegations about Russia's intention to use nuclear weapons in Ukraine and against Ukraine. This is impossible, given that Russian doctrinal guidelines severely limit emergency situations in which the use of nuclear weapons can be technically possible,” the diplomat stressed.
No hypothetical scenario for the use of nuclear weapons can be applied to the crisis in Ukraine. Russia may resort to nuclear weapons only in response to the use of weapons of mass destruction or the use of conventional weapons that threaten the existence of the Russian Federation. None of these scenarios are applicable to the situation in Ukraine, Belousov pointed out.
