Mexico was counting the cost today of the visit of Isidoro, which after devastating parts of Cuba was declassified from hurricane to tropical storm. However, its passage through Yucatan caused large-scale damage, leaving 70,000 homeless.
A state of emergency was declared in the state of Yucatan, southern Mexico, after 43 municipalities declared that there had been severe damage. The storm now heads out to the Gulf of Mexico, where the oil rigs off Capeche are threatened.
Four people were killed in numerous road accidents as the storm blew inland, after it had been predicted that it would stay out at sea. It is travelling at seven kilometres per hour and it is forecast that it could reach the coast of the USA in the coming days.
