The rescuers believe it is early to say that the place of Mi-8 helicopter's wreck in Kamchatka (the Russian Far East) has been found.
Head of the civil defence and emergencies department of the Kamchatka region Nikolai Timoshenko told RIA Novosti that an oil spot was discovered in a river which is flowing in the area of the search.
"But we cannot confirm that the helicopter fell precisely in this place. The search continues," he stressed.
Timoshenko specified that the spot was discovered on Ozyornaya River.
A helicopter with a crew of rescuers on board has flown there.
Nikolai Timoshenko refuted some media reports that the fragments of the Mi-8 helicopter were discovered.
"This information is not true," he told RIA Novosti. Timoshenko also stressed that such information could not be provided by the operative search staff.
The Mi-8 helicopter with staff workers of the Sakhalin region's administration, including governor Igor Farkhutdinov on board, disappeared on August 20.
