Russian military experts and medics have set out for the crash site of the Mi-8 helicopter in Abkhazia, the command of the Russian Peacekeeping Force in Abkhazia reported. According to Russian military, there were nine people aboard the helicopter including the Deputy Chief Military Observer in Abkhazia, as well as military observers from Germany, France, Pakistan and Switzerland. The helicopter was piloted by an Ukrainian crew. The Force Staff refused to comment on the number of casualties and the cause of the tragedy before the details of the crash were clear. At the same time, it stated that it had information that the helicopter had been shot down. Russian military do not roll out that the helicopter was shot down by the militants currently acting in the Kodor gorge.
