Production of drugs in Afghanistan grew over the past year despite the antiterrorist operation, Lieutenant-General Alexander Manilov, the head of the international contracts department of Russia's Federal Border Service, told journalists on Tuesday.
According to specialists, the outflow of drugs from Afghanistan comes not via Tajikistan, but via Pakistan and Iran /50%/, Turkmenistan /35%/ and only then via Tajikistan /15%/, Manilov reported.
"The problem of creating an anti-drug belt around Afghanistan is overripe," stressed the general. He reminded journalists that the money obtained through sale of drugs mostly goes to terrorists. "The heroin issue remains on the agenda of the day," he stated.
