Moscow Rocked by Second Explosion Near Scene of Russian General’s Killing

Multiple Blasts Shake Southern Moscow After Car Bomb Kills Two Police Officers

Several explosions were heard overnight in southern Moscow at the site where a car bomb previously killed Russian Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov. Residents of the Orekhovo-Borisovo district reported at least two loud blasts on Yeletskaya Street, followed by smoke and fire.

Explosion Near Police Vehicle Leaves Three Dead

According to preliminary information, an unidentified individual threw a package into a vehicle, which later detonated. The blast occurred near a police car and triggered an immediate emergency response. Footage from the scene circulated online, showing heavy smoke and fire.

"According to investigators, on the night of December 23 to 24 on Yeletskaya Street in Moscow, two traffic police officers noticed a suspicious individual near a police vehicle. When they approached to detain him, an explosive device was activated. As a result of the injuries sustained, two police officers and another individual standing nearby were killed.”

The statement was released by the Investigative Committee of Russia, which confirmed that three people died in the explosion. Two additional victims were transported to hospital by ambulance in critical condition.

Search for Additional Explosive Devices Underway

Law enforcement units cordoned off the area and conducted a sweep using sniffer dogs to check for additional improvised explosive devices. Forensic experts and investigators from the Moscow branch of the Investigative Committee are examining the scene.

Authorities have announced that a series of forensic examinations will be ordered, including medical and explosive-technical analyses, to establish the exact mechanism and origin of the blast.

Connection to Killing of General Fanil Sarvarov

The explosion occurred near the same location where, on December 22, a bomb planted under a vehicle killed Fanil Sarvarov, head of the Operational Training Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. His death was officially confirmed by Svetlana Petrenko, spokesperson for the Investigative Committee.

Military analyst Viktor Baranets of Komsomolskaya Pravda previously explained that Sarvarov's department was responsible for strategic military planning, large-scale exercises, and the integration of combat experience, making it a potential target.

Investigation Ongoing

Investigators are now working to determine whether the latest explosion is directly linked to the earlier assassination of the general or represents a separate coordinated attack. No official motive has yet been announced, and authorities have not commented on potential suspects.
