A fatal knife attack took place on the morning of December 16 at a secondary school in the settlement of Gorki-2, located in the Odintsovo district of the Moscow region.
A 15-year-old student attacked classmates and school staff, killing a ten-year-old child and injuring several others.
Police received the first reports of the incident at approximately 9:00 a.m. local time. According to investigators, the teenage attacker entered the school wearing a balaclava and carrying a knife and a gas spray canister.
The attacker was filming his attack. He first encountered a group of children, pointed his finger at them and asked their nationality. He then encountered a security guard, who told the teenager to put the knife away. The assailant sprayed him in the face with gas, stabbed him and proceeded to through the corridor attacking children.
A fourth-grade student died from stab wounds. The assailant then took a selfie with the victim. The gruesome photo shows the teen boy standing against the background of the killed child whose lifeless body is seen on the stairway.
Several pupils were injured, and witnesses reported that children fled the building without outerwear, hiding in nearby residential entrances. The school was subsequently evacuated.
Authorities later identified the deceased child as ten-year-old Kobildzhon A.. According to reports, the attacker took a selfie at the scene with the injured child visible in the background.
The suspect was detained following a police operation and taken in for questioning. Law enforcement officials confirmed that the attacker is a ninth-grade student at the same school.
“According to preliminary data, he pleads guilty,” said Olga Vradiy, a representative of the Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee for the Moscow Region.
The Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case on charges of murder and attempted murder under Article 105 of the Russian Criminal Code.
The Moscow Region Prosecutor’s Office has taken control of the investigation and will assess whether school officials complied with legal requirements for security and education.
The attacker was identified as 15-year-old Timofey K. The teenager was wearing a T-shirt that had the English inscription "No Lives Matter" emblazoned on it. This slogan refers to a misanthropic movement that emerged in the United States.
Moscow Region Governor Andrey Vorobyov described the incident as an act of extreme brutality.
“This is a terrible tragedy for the entire Moscow region. We must analyze everything that led to it and do everything possible to ensure that such incidents never happen again,” Vorobyov said.
The father of the suspect told journalists that he was unaware of any reasons that could have led his son to commit such an act and said he was learning details of the incident from the media while traveling to the police station.
