Eight Ukrainian soldiers were killed in the fighting near Slavyansk, the "people's mayor" of the town, Vyacheslav Ponomarev, said. Seven more people were injured.
Violence erupted near the town of Kramatorsk and Slavyansk again on May 13 overnight. Militias have reported the destruction of several armored vehicles.
According to Ponomarev, the militia suffered losses as well, but he did not specify the number of victims. He noted that the situation in Slavyansk and Kramatorsk was quiet in the morning. "In the morning, all was quiet, one can hear sporadic gunshots somewhere, but we are used to it," the "people's mayor" said.
