The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation will investigate the information about the beating of an eight-year-old boy, whom US parents adopted from Russia. The information about yet another crime committed against a Russian child in the United States appeared on the website of Pavel Astakhov, who serves as the Children's Rights Commissioner for the President of the Russian Federation.
"Another couple of sadistic foster parents has been arrested in the United States. Eight-year-old adoptive Russian boy ran away from the monsters. At 1 a.m., the boy came to his neighbors and asked for help. Police found multiple bruises and traces of beating. We investigate the circumstances," Astakhov tweeted yesterday.
According to US news agencies, the adoptive family - 39-year-old lieutenant commander of the U.S. Navy Matthew Sweeney and his 41-year-old wife, Amy Sweeney - reside in Bristow, Virginia. The boy, Daniil Kruchin, who was born in Tula, Russia, was adopted in 2006 and received a new name, Daniel Alexander Sweeney.
The boy ran away from his home on Tuesday night. His neighbors took him to police, where he said that his adoptive parents were beating him regularly. When his mother reported the boy's disappearance on Wednesday morning, the parents were immediately arrested. The boy is safe now, US social services are taking care of him.
The Sweeneys have five more children of their own. The father serves in the Navy, the mother is a housewife. According to neighbors, the family was unsociable. They also said that they had have never seen the child from Russia playing on the street, reports NTV.
The foster parents were charged with child abuse. However, they were released from jail on bail of 20 thousand dollars for each person.
Astakhov addressed to Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov with a request to bring the situation under control and instruct the Consulate General of the Russian Federation to assist the boy. The Central Investigation Department will conduct investigation to establish the circumstances of Daniil's beatings.
"The Investigation Committee is concerned about the cases of killings and violence committed against Russian children in adoptive American families. In each case, the IC of Russia will carefully analyze, figure out all circumstances of the crime to determine the perpetrators of the crimes against children," the website of the committee said.
