The Russian Federal veterinary and phytosanitary watchdog Rosselhoznadzor suspends meat imports from Moldova from 27 October, the head of the agency, Sergei Dankvert said. The inspection was conducted in cooperation with Belarusian colleagues.
"From October 27, we are closing all meat imports from Moldova as a result of the inspection,"the head of the agency said, TASS reports.
The inspection revealed cases of deliveries of unsafe meat products via Moldova. "We have discovered cases of delivery of meat of unknown origin from Moldova. It goes about unsafe products from the veterinary and sanitary point of view", he explained. Cases of false veterinary certification of meat products were established as well. The inspection of Moldovan meat factories revealed disparity of their production capacity and the volumes of products that the companies were shipping to Russia, the official added.
From October 22, Russia enacted a ban on the import and transit of all vegetable and fruit products from Ukraine.
