Wal-Mart Stores plans to invade Russian market

Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (NYSE: WMT), an American public corporation that runs a chain of large, discount department stores, is cherishing an idea to ooze into the Russian market.

First of all, Wal-Mart has appointed an analyst to explore growth opportunities in Russia and neighboring markets.

Stephan Fanderl was named president of Wal-Mart Emerging Markets to help achieve this goal. Earlier he successfully dealt with Germany ’s REWE Group, developing its business in Germany and other countries.

Wal-Mart, looking for international cooperation and extension, actually ranked the top 20 countries relative to international retailer presence, including Russia as the 10-largest global retail market.

The joint venture may involve a great number of obstacles, such as local competition, infrastructure, logistics and securing partnerships. It may also face regulations fixed by the Russian government.
