Vodka "Putin" Produced in Lithuania

This vodka brand is sold in Lithuania only, however producers want to export it to other countries including Russia
According to the Nezavisimaya Gazeta newspaper, the "Putin" vodka costs $7 per a bottle. There are white, blue and red stripes and the name of the product in capital letters on the label. The producer explains that the name of the vodka originates from the word "putinas", the name of a tree with red berries growing in Lithuania.

900 distilleries in Russia hold licences for alcohol production today. At that, every third distillery is situated in the Caucasus, in Kabardino-Balkaria and Northern Ossetia basically. One third of the distilleries are located in the Moscow Region; the rest of alcohol producers are spread about the country.

Every region of the country has a vodka brand of its own. These are mostly names of the cities where distilleries are situated: "Stary Tomsk" (Old Tomsk) in Russia's Tomsk Region, "Smolensky Brilliant" (Smolensk Diamond) - in Smolensk and so on. People can study geography from vodka labels. What is more, labels of some vodka brands are often connected with the history of Russia. There are brief historical stories on such vodka labels. There is "Kalashnikov" vodka in Russia's republic of Udmurtia which quality is said to be as good as the well-known Kalashnikov gun.

Nezavisimaya Gazeta publishes rather unusual names of vodka: "Ladies' Riot" - vodka for women, "Jewish Vodka", a kosher brand.
