The US government aims to significantly extend its capabilities to hack personal computers.

According to experts, changes of the Rule 41will allow them to easily get access to data, extract it and spy on users. It will affect everyone who uses a computer with the Internet access throughout the world.

The changes will affect all the privacy protective technologies including Tor and VPN. Rule 41 allows judges of the federal magistrate to issue orders to carry out search and extraction. However, there's one important limitation: an order may be obtained from a judge within the jurisdiction of whom the territory - which is to be searched - is, except for special cases.

Thus, amendments to Rule 41 lift this limitation, which allows the government to obtain the order and get data from a computer which is within another jurisdiction.

State agents will also be able to get information from computers which are beyond the US borders.

Unless any measures are taken, the amendment will be put into force on 1 December 2016.
