The sentence against Ukrainian citizen Nadia Savchenko, who was convicted to 22 years in prison for the murder of RTR journalists in the Donbass, came into force on April 5.
Press-secretary of the Donetsk Court of the Rostov region Yulia Kalacheva stated that the court had not received any appeals against the verdict from any of the parties. "The prosecutor, the victims, the defendant and her defense have not appealed against the verdict. Therefore, the verdict came into force from 00.00," she said.
Nadia Savchenko may thus be delivered to a standard regime penal colony, exchanged for Russian citizens convicted or arrested abroad, or extradited to Ukraine to serve her sentences at home.
On April 6, Savchenko plans to go on another hunger strike, when she refuses to eat food and drink water.
According to Putin's official spokesman Dmitry Peskov, Savchenko, as a convict, would serve her sentences unless decided otherwise.
According to investigators, on June 17, 2014, Savchenko was adjusting artillery fire on a checkpoint of Lugansk militia in the area of the village of Metalist, where civilians were located, including three journalists of VGTRK. Two of them, Igor Kornelyuk and Anton Voloshin, were killed in the shelling.
