A burial place of a Scythian warrior was discovered during construction works in the centre of Tiraspol (the second largest city in Moldova in the lower reaches of the Dniester river; nowadays the centre of the self-proclaimed Trans-Dniestrian Moldovan Republic).
The find dates back to the 4th century BC, said Doctor of History Yevgeny Yarovoi, the head of the archaeological laboratory of the local university. The burial place was located in a catacomb and was damaged when builders were making a foundation pit of the dwelling-house.
There might have been a typical Scythian burial mound, the scientist said. According to experts, a common warrior, who did not belong to Scythian nobility, was buried there.
The discovered bronze arrows, amulets and a Mediterranean shell will be added to the collection of the archaeological museum of the Tiraspol University.
