An attempt to kill Vice Governor of Smolensk region

An attempt has been made to kill Smolensk Region's Vice Governor Anatoly Makarenko in Smolensk, 350 km to the west of Moscow. The press service of the local administration reported that Makarenko's car was attacked when he was leaving his country house (dacha). The driver was killed, Makarenko and his bodyguard were injured. According to the Governor's instructions, Makarenko is responsible for a number of economic issues. He is in charge of the bureau of technical stock-taking, the fund for region's property, the debt center, the fund for small business support, the department for license granting, the registration chamber, the committee for price regulation, the department of the state order, the committee for trade, services and development of small business, the fuel and energy complex and etc.
