Famous wrestler Alexander Karelin goes in for politics

Famous Russian wrestler Alexander Karelin became a leader of the Unity party in the Siberian federal district. He was elected a chairman of the Inter-regional Co-ordinating Council of the Unity in the framework of Siberian federal district. Representatives of the party hope that the political life in the Siberian Unity will “revive” after Karelin is elected. As a matter of fact, since the Co-ordinating Council was established in September 2000, no one conference of the local representatives of Unity has been conducted. The electing of Karelin, who already took part in the elections in December 1999, may improve the situation.
