Stray dogs kill British woman

A pack of stray dogs killed a British woman in a southeastern Bulgarian village.

Ann Gordon, 56, was attacked by eight dogs as she was walking her own dog, a German Shepherd, on Tuesday on the outskirts of Nedyalsko, regional police spokeswoman Katya Nyagolova said.

An autopsy confirmed that she bled to death after suffering multiple bites, Nyagolova told The Associated Press.

"Ann Gordon died from blood loss before an ambulance arrived," she said.

Children had tried to help the woman but were also attacked by the dogs, according to the state BTA news agency. Authorities later removed the stray dogs from the scene.

Gordon owned a house in Nedyalsko, where she lived with her husband for the past two years.

Local authorities said her family wished to bury her in Britain.

Nearly 50,000 British nationals have bought property in this former communist country in recent years, mostly in rural areas.
