Domodedovo blast was orchestrated by terrorist leader Doku Umarov

43307.jpegRussian Islamist leader Doku Umarov has claimed responsibility for the bomb attack on Moscow's Domodedovo airport last month which killed 36 people. Mr Umarov heads the Caucasus Emirate, a shadowy terrorist group that dreams of creating an Islamic state in Russia's north Caucasus region and operates mainly in the wild backcountry of Dagestan, Chechnya, and Ingushetia.

Speaking in a video carried by the Islamist website Kavkazcenter apparently made on the day of the January 24 attack, Mr Umarov, wearing combat fatigues, said: "The special operation today in Moscow ... was carried out on my orders", Financial Times reports.

"Among us there are hundreds of brothers who are prepared to sacrifice themselves" in further attacks, Umarov says in the video.

"We can at any time carry out operations where we want," he added.

Chechen rebels have fought two full-scale wars against Russian forces since 1994, Scotsman informs.
