Veterans of the Soviet Armed Forces are training US marines in combat techniques in Afghanistan.
Pavel Tsatsouline trained the Soviet forces which entered Afghanistan. Now he is in Virginia, USA, training the US Marines.
A citizen of the USA for the last few years, Tsatsouline is teaching hand-to-hand combat methods, namely breathing techniques to make punches and kicks more effective and bayonet attack strategy. In the latter approach, the marines are taught how to inflict a bayonet wound which not only cripples the enemy but also ties down one or two members of his platoon.
One Marines officer stated that the armed forces had thought that there would never again be a war and that hand-to-hand combat would never become a reality. “I think that people are now starting to realise that this is not the case”, he claimed.
