Tretyakov Gallery shows Iceland's art of 20th century

On Tuesday the exhibition "Facing Nature", representing Iceland's art of the 20th century, which is unknown to Russians, opens at the State Tretyakov Gallery.

This is the first-ever exposition of Iceland's painting and graphics in Russia, said Lidia Iovleva, the deputy director of the State Tretyakov Gallery. The exposition features more than 60 works by Icelandic classics and young artists. Landscape and abstract pictures, prevailing in the exposition, will be accompanied by the music of Icelandic singer Bjork, the star of the Oscar-winning film "Dancer in he Dark".

Moreover, the exhibition will exceed traditional fine art limits and turn into the centre of national culture festival. Several modern Icelandic feature films will be shown at the Tretyakov Gallery as part of the Days of Icelandic Culture.

A mini-exposition of photos of unique Iceland's nature, taken by German photographer Erich Spiegelhalter, will supplement valleys, mountains and waterfalls on canvasses to help the Russian audience to understand the sources of art inspiration.
