Cervantes Institute Centre To Open In Moscow

The Spanish government has approved the agreement with Russia to open a Moscow centre of the Cervantes Institute. The Cervantes Institute is the largest governmental organisation advocating Spanish culture abroad. The institute is an analogue of the Pushkin Institute of Russia which has had a branch in Spain since the early 1990s. Cervantes Institute Director Jon Juaristi said that the Moscow centre is due to open late this year or early in 2002. Simultaneously, similar centres will be opened in Washington, Berlin, Beijing and Tokyo. According to earlier reports, the Spanish government has allocated 1.3 billion pesetas for the establishing and maintaining of the Moscow Centre of the Cervantes Institute.
