Russia's Emergency Situations Ministry published a forecast of possible natural disasters in the year 2004 in Russia

Russia's Emergency Situations Ministry predicts natural cataclysms in several Russians regions in the upcoming year. 2004 is promising an increase of various natural processes in such regions of the Russian Federation as Northern Osetiya, Dagestan and Buryatiya, states the report of long-term forecast for 2004.
According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, mudslides are expected to occur in Stavropol region, Karachaevo-Cherkesiya, Kabardino-Balkariya, and the Sakhalin region. Kabardino-Balkariya and Buryatiya should prepare for avalanches.
The Ministry’s forecast also informs that majority of natural disasters will most likely take place in Southern and Far eastern regions of the Russian Federation.
 
“Majority of hydrometeorological emergency situations are expected in Krasnodar, Stavropol, Tomsk, Kemerov, Novosibirsk, and Altai region,” remarks the Ministry.
In addition, such areas as Khabarovsky region, Amursk, Magadan, St. Petersburg regions will most likely be affected by major cataclysms.
Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations also predicts the overall increase of fires in Russia. However, the situation will not be as drastic as in 2003.
