Former Chief of Russian Army General Staff to work with NATO

Former Chief of Russian General Staff, general Anatoly Kvashnin will be appointed Russia’s chief military representative in NATO headquarters in Brussels, Russky Courier reported.
According to the newspaper source in the administration of Russian President, General Kvashnin will either work for NATO or will require Russian Defense Ministry to find him a new job, such as a lecturer in some Academy.

On July 19 Russian President Vladimir Putin dismissed 58-year-old army general Anatoly Kvashnin from the post of Chief of General Staff of Russian Army. First Deputy Chief of General Staff, colonel-general Yury Baluevsky was appointed the Chief of Staff.

The newspaper’s source in the Kremlin said general Kvashnin wants to be Presidents aide or advisor, but Vladimir Putin already has general Andrei Burutin as advisor, and is glad with his work. “There is no reason to create competitors, and the opinion of Kvashnin on military issues is well-known and will hardly be changed”, said the official.

He believes that the former Chief of General Staff will be of use for NATO, his appointment will demonstrate that Russia takes partnership with NATO very seriously. 

Today military interests of Russia in Brussels are represented by Vice Admiral Valentin Kuznetsov who previously was the Chief of Legal and International Department of Russian Defense Ministry.
