A trade agreement has been signed between the Nizhni Novgorod Region and the government of the Sichuan Province in China. This was announced by Governor of Nizhni Novgorod Gennady Hodyryev at a press conference yesterday.
The governor said that a provisional agreement had been reached on a joint project to produce televisions at the Lenin Television Factory of Nizhni Novgorod during a visit by a Nizhni Novgorod delegation to China on March 24-28. There were also negotiations about the possible creation of a joint enterprise for the production of television tubes at the Borsky Glass Factory, where the quality of production ensures that the most complex mechanisms can be produced.
The governor added that Russian company GAZ had reached an agreement on the assembly of 8 thousand GAZelle and Sobol cars in Sichuan. Moreover, another agreement will be signed in April between a Chinese airplane constructor and the research-and-production company Polyot [Flight], a designer of various aviation systems.
The Sichuan Province has the most diverse manufacturing industry in western China. Metallurgy, chemical industry, car and airplane production, cosmonautics and food production in the province all account for a significant share of the national industries.
Trade turnover between the Nizhni Novgorod Region and China in 2002 came to USD 78 million. The Russian region exported cars, oil, food and timber worth USD 56 million in 2002.
